THE ESSENTIAL NEED FOR SOLITUDE IN PERSONAL SPIRITUAL EVOLUTION                                             9/2015

It's about solitary experiences. The time alone. Making time. Much time. Late night meditations. Long walks. Time with nature. It's where we get in touch with our true self. Intimate private prayer: We speak, we listen. God listens, God speaks. Many times it's just becoming aware of the moment. Aware of peace, aware of inner life. It's what human living is about at it's core. It always has been; it's balancing solitary moments and hours with the rest of our life's activities.

The library is there. We find it, inwardly, and we begin to read. We learn through seeing; as we see it and direct our intention/desire toward it: we be it. Whether it's the received vision of ourselves who is a more complete, patient and loving human being or just being aware of the essence of our higher self. Bringing this consciousness in to our practical lives causes spiritual growth and development.

It's about spending the time to know our deeper, true self as opposed to the artificial and false identity we formed with the help of the world, with it's shallowness and exploitive expectations. When we begin to see and know our true selves many of the things we see we aren't going to like. The temptation is to deny that certain negative attributes are part of us or to be apathetic to them and regard them as "just being human". Here's the good news: through the same process as seeing/being we can set about changing ourselves; when one decides we want to rid ourselves of unwanted negative traits, we are given a vision of what we were/are meant to be/can be and thru seeing that, we can transform ourselves thru desire and intent. This is not to be confused with willing ourselves to change; that usually makes the disposition worse. We simply desire and intend to receive inwardly the changes we want and God does the rest. From picture to  picture we become evolved. Living out the inner changes in our bodily lives transmute us to become better, more enlightened human beings. It's the purpose of us being here on Earth.

Adversely, through the same solitary inward experience we also discover in our true self really great stuff that we recognize as enlightened, valuable and special; we rejoice in those attributes and exercise them. And we also guard them, especially from our own propensity toward arrogance. We determine to have the guts to be who we really are in spite of the world's ignorance.

Learning what we feel/believe is true and good along with what is negative and evil is found, in a real way, through reflecting on traits, values, outcomes and characteristics of things and people; this includes the study of human histories and human evolution. The same is true of observing animal life in nature. None of this possible if we are continually consumed by the common activities of everyday living, which doesn't prioritize for solitude.

As we become familiar with our deeper, real selves we also become aware of divine presence. We experience feelings of love, peace and joy; deep rooted feelings and experiences of contentment and fulfillment are found in our heart of hearts. This is because our deeper self, or soul, is, and always has been, connected to God at a most elemental level; it is an unbreakable spiritual connection. I'm not referring to the "small g" gods of religion. I speak of the God who is the absolute source of intelligence, love, creativity, strength and personal power; all the attributes we become aware of through spiritual consciousness. This God isn't just in heaven; he, she or it is everywhere and in everything; the essence of life and love itself. This God is the one who is continually soliciting our attention to bring us to the experience of ongoing spiritual awakening and through that, fulfilling our reason for being on earth: personal transmutation toward the light.
