Navigating Reason

I struggle without a cemented philosophy and compass to move with confidence and courage from the present to what will in a blink of an eye be the future.  I consider the lives of past, of the children, of the rare innocence and unconditional love.  And the path taken, the agony of choices, but sheer happiness of all of life's better moments.

Our direction seems forged somewhere between decisions of the hart and all of what we know is fact, of observable notions of truth, lying within reason and logic.  In our world 1+1 is supposed to equal 2, not 3.  Wishing, hoping, needing it to be 3 will not make it 3.

From previous generations to the current one, reason has been called into question by the claimants of higher spirituality, the heart, and emotions.  Reason and Logic were supposed to be the tools for whatever we wished to accomplish, either good or bad.  They were a model for choice, your very own value machine. They claimed no ultimate source of wisdom, only a best predictable way ahead, a way to choose between alternatives... for good or bad; for survival or suffering; for realizing life's goals; for valuing that which they chose and those actions to achieve it. After all, humans are the only ones on this planet which can perceive its environment and form concepts on millions of levels which have led us from the caves to Moon and beyond. Concepts of wealth, power, and control, and slavery have equally led to the horrors of humanity.  Wisdom comes from the experience offered from the journey.  It is the lessons we were supposed to learn.  And experience tells us 2+2 does not equal 3.

As with the children, the family, the friendships, and relationships,   we live, love and learn; we journey on an emotional tour.  The path taken is from choice, we have either significant knowledge, or wisdom to make a choice between alternatives, or, we go with the gut.  We follow emotions and find hurt and anger come forth.

How do we understand, how do we control, how do we live with this tension, and why does life not unfold as the way it was supposed to be?  Will you choose by your hart or reason?  Why would there be a difference between them?
